Timeline for Transgenic Projects

Prior to Injections

All projects are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis
DNA is submitted to the facility
Microinjection DNA is purified (plasmid-based transgenes) or evaluated (BAC DNA), generally within one to two weeks
Microinjections are scheduled and mice ordered

Week 1: microinjection and surgical transfer of injected embryos
Week 2: recipients weighed 10 to 12 days post-surgery to determine pregnancy
Week 3: pups born 19 days following surgery
Week 5: tail samples are taken from 14-day-old pups for genotyping
Week 6: genotyping results expected from lab within a week; founders are separated for transfer to PI
Week 9: 6-week-old transgenic females founders sexually mature
Week 11: 8-week-old transgenic males founders sexually mature
